A day of the good life

Place: Cologne, Germany

Timeframe: once a year (?)

Participants:   neighborhood, associations and institutions

Goal: community building

WHAT IS IT?

The Agora Köln has been organizing the “Day of the Good Life: Cologne Sunday of Sustainability since 2013 in different districts of Cologne. The Day of the Good Life is a participatory project: because it is shaped by committed neighbors, residents, associations and institutions who are committed to a better neighborhood and a diverse urban society in Cologne – for “The Cologne we want”.

The Agora Köln is closing streets and some of the parking spaces in the area to traffic. This creates a broad public space that can be used for the neighborhood, creative development, political debates or mobility for a day. They contribute to the socio-ecological transformation of the city of Cologne, create solutions in the areas of mobility, climate protection, urban design, social justice and culture – for a future-proof, sustainable and livable city, develop projects such as the Day of the Good Life to make it possible to experience how public space can be used, promote neighborhood structures and thus support urban development from below, provide impetus for global sustainable development through local projects and substantive work and encourage them to become active themselves.
