Place: Schools and preschools in two different parts of the city: Drottninghög and Ringstorp
Timeframe: January – June 2025
Participants: Children from 4 to 12 years old
Goal: To develop children’s ability to express themselves through film as a tool for communication and reflection, and to strengthen their sense of identity by giving them the opportunity to present their own reality through a medium that holds strong meaning for them.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The children have created short films about their city, expressing their perspectives and thoughts about the city and its future together with a professional filmmaker and a visual artist. The project aimed to increase engagement, creativity, and understanding of filmmaking.
WHY WAS IT A SUCCES?
The children enjoyed the process of making films together and otherwise shy children were more expressive and self-confident than before.
The pre-school taking part will continue to develop this method and educate more pedagogues to spread it.
“In the “My City” project, the children have had the opportunity to try new ways of expressing themselves, which has been both fun and challenging. Even though some parts were unfamiliar, they continued with curiosity and helped each other move forward, and I believe this has strengthened the group’s sense of community in a wonderful way.” Johan Sundell, filmmaker
“Children of different ages have collaborated and gotten to know each other through the project. It was lovely to hear how the children reflected on what they called: “Truly Important” about their everyday lives and their place.” Rita Winde, visual artist
