On Neighbours’ Sofa

Place: Germany

Participants: Citizens

Goal: Strengthening and networking neighborhoods, cultural programme informal and very close, artistic director in the district

WHAT IS IT?

The residents of the neighborhood open their living rooms to the neighborhood.

The four walls become a meeting place between people in the district and a venue for concerts, readings, plays or completely different spectacles. The hosts invite neighbors and friends, and there can be support in the form of personalized flyers. If necessary, technology must be procured and set up for the event. There should also be enough seating (cardboard stools are sufficient). The hosts can be given a small budget to provide the guests with culinary delights. This relaxes the mood and, above all, ensures that time is spent together after the event to get to know each other better and network.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Getting people to open their homes to strangers can be challenging. It is often better to start by asking community leaders or well-connected individuals to host events. This helps the idea catch on and become more accepted over time.

Personal contact with advance visit: To establish a good basis of trust – after all, the events take place in private – meet personally with the potential hosts beforehand. You can also inspect the rooms and take pictures for the artists.

Give the hosts a budget for food and ask the artists for their own technique. Maybe the room is so big that no technology is necessary? Decorates the living rooms only by arrangement and if it is not already cozy enough.
