Participants:  citizens/organizations/communities

Goal: group engaged in providing the quality of life in the city.

WHAT IS IT?

SynAthina is a shared space that brings together, supports and promotes citizen groups working to improve the quality of life in the city. By coordinating the valuable resources of citizen groups, the city of Athens is actively responding to the needs of its citizens and is thus being redesigned. By promoting the activities of its citizens, the city creates a new understanding of the relationship between civil society and local government and nurtures their dynamic, bidirectional connection. SynAthina is an initiative of the City of Athens. It was launched in July 2013 and now operates under the Vice-Mayor’s Office for Civil Society and Innovation.

HOW TO?

Collecting: They collect citizens’ activities and thereby learn what their priorities are in the city.

Connecting: They enable groups and citizens to realize their activities and encourage them to cooperate with other groups, sponsors and institutions.

Selecting: They select the activities that have a greater impact on the city and investigate their potential for use in the local government.

Incorporation: They activate urban impulses so that city services can be improved in relation to the current needs of citizens. Citizens’ activities can lead to a change in the city’s policy priorities, an improvement in regulations and a simplification of procedures.

SynAthina focuses on networking and organization. On the website, anyone who wants to start or support a project can get information in different sections and become active.
