Timeframe: Mid-term, long term
Organiser: The municipality in a close co-operation with local inhabitants and companies
Participants: Local inhabitants and companies as well as everyone interested in wooden houses, gardens and renovation
Goal: To co-create an event, to strengthen inhabitans sense of belonging , to maintain the social network between people from the same town, to promote the wooden town
WHAT HAPPENED?
The first Wooden House and Renovation Construction fair was arranged on 17.8 2025. It was a part of the events planned for the Baltic Sea Region Cultural Pearl title year for Kaskinen/Kaskö. It is the smallest town in Finland and famous of its old and beautiful wooden houses.
WHY WAS IT A SUCCES?
The event in Kaskinen/Kaskö succeeded beyond expectations:
Co-operation: the local inhabitants co-created the event together with the municipality and companies. They were so proud to show their houses and gardens and to tell the visitors the stories behind them.
Huge interest : An estimated 700 visitors got to know the beautiful wooden houses of Kaskinen/Kaskö, their stories and the traditions of renovation construction.
Feedback: The organizers from the municipality have got only positive feedback and they even plan to have a meeting with all inhabitants who kindly and proudly opened their doors and presented their homes and gardens. Elina Virta and Jonas Söderlund from the municipality had the main responsibility to organize the very first wooden house event in the town. Their conversations with the fair visitors confirmed the assumption that people are tired of the overpriced luxury and are now more interested in ordinary homes and personal ideas for renovations. Many of the visitors praised how amazing and inspiring it was to even see completely unfinished projects and not only finished renovations.
Future: The plan is to have an even bigger follow-up 2026 and make improvements after the feedback discussion.
